Getting there and parking

Newtown Park is on Old Alabama Road. The city’s listing does not mention road closures or special parking for the ceremony. The same Saturday, the city’s Diwali Celebration runs 4 to 8 p.m. at The Boardwalk at Town Center, so the two events do not overlap. See our Diwali Celebration page.

The Veterans Memorial Walk

The five-acre walk inside Newtown Park has a hardscaped trail, a fountain, benches, a gazebo and granite monuments. It is the permanent home of The Wall That Heals, a 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial bearing the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died in Vietnam. The Johns Creek Veterans Association sponsors the walk, which is open 6 a.m. to midnight every day, according to the city’s Veterans Memorial Walk page.

Other veterans events in the week

The Johns Creek Veterans Association’s color guard has appearances at local schools and businesses from Nov. 6 to Nov. 11, its calendar shows. Most are school assemblies for their own students and families. The association’s monthly meeting moves to the second Thursday in November and December, at Park Place in Newtown Park, 3125 Old Alabama Road.
