Cauley Creek Park and Rogers Bridge
The 203-acre park on Bell Road runs along the Chattahoochee. Its 3.1-mile rubberized trail, built with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program, passes river overlooks, courts, fields and a playground. The trail leads onto the Rogers Bridge pedestrian bridge, rebuilt in the same spot as a replica of the original and opened in 2023, which carries walkers and cyclists over the river into Rogers Park in Duluth, about four miles east. The park has restrooms and picnic pavilions. Source: city’s Cauley Creek Park page.
The Boardwalk at Town Center
The 20-acre park behind City Hall opened in 2026 as part of the Town Center plan. Its 15-foot elevated trail circles a pond and constructed wetland, with overlooks, terraced seating and an amphitheater with a deck over the water. The trail runs about a mile from Johns Creek Parkway north toward McGinnis Ferry Road, and the North Pond loop is about half a mile. A pedestrian tunnel under Medlock Bridge Road links it to shops and restaurants on the west side.
Parking: public and ADA parking at City Hall, 11360 Lakefield Drive; take the path to the left of the front entrance. Source: city’s Boardwalk page.
Newtown, Shakerag, Ocee and Autrey Mill
- Newtown Park, 3150 Old Alabama Road: 2 miles of trails past the dog park, community garden and the Veterans Memorial Walk.
- Shakerag Park, 10945 Rogers Circle, in the city’s northeastern tip: a 1.1-mile nature trail loops under hardwoods the city says are 200 years old and past one of Johns Creek’s only working farms, with a pond overlook and fishing pier.
- Ocee Park, 10900 Buice Road: a walking and jogging path and a nature trail on 37 acres.
- Autrey Mill Nature Preserve, 9770 Autrey Mill Road: woodland trails through 46 acres of ravine forest, past a creek and the preserve’s historic buildings. The preserve’s own site lists 1.25 miles of trails, while the city’s page gives larger figures. The grounds and trails are open daily 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the visit is free (Autrey Mill).
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area
The National Park Service runs river units along the Johns Creek shore, including Jones Bridge and Medlock Bridge, both with launches for canoes, kayaks, rafts and tubes. Across the river, the Abbotts Bridge unit in Duluth has a trail of about a mile out and back. Pets must be on a leash of 6 feet or shorter.
An entrance pass is required: $5 per private vehicle for the day, or $40 for an annual pass (NPS fees page). Unit maps: Jones Bridge, Medlock Bridge and Abbotts Bridge, from the NPS maps page.
Trails being built
- Chattahoochee Greenway, Phase 1: a 1.1-mile path from Abbotts Bridge Road to the Cauley Creek 5K trail, on National Park Service land; in design. Phase 2 would extend it to McGinnis Ferry Road (project page).
- Medlock Bridge Road Trail: a 10-foot multi-use trail along the east side of Medlock Bridge Road (Georgia 141) from the river bridge to Bobby Jones Drive, with engineering from spring 2026 (project page).
